Building Relationships Through God's Love

Scripture of the Week:

Psalm 92

Of David.

It is good to praise the LORD,
to sing hymns to Your name, O Most High,

To proclaim Your steadfast love at daybreak,
Your faithfulness each night

With a ten-stringed harp,
with voice and lyre together.

You have gladdened me by Your deeds, O LORD;
I shout for joy at Your handiwork.

How great are Your works, O LORD,
how very subtle Or “profound.” Your designs!

A brutish man cannot know,
a fool cannot understand this:

though the wicked sprout like grass,
though all evildoers blossom,
it is only that they may be destroyed forever.

But You are exalted, O LORD, for all time.
Surely, Your enemies, O LORD,
surely, Your enemies perish;
all evildoers are scattered.

You raise my horn high like that of a wild ox;
I am soaked in freshening oil.

I shall see the defeat of my watchful foes,
hear of the downfall of the wicked who beset me.

The righteous bloom like a date-palm;
they thrive like a cedar in Lebanon;

planted in the house of the LORD,
they flourish in the courts of our God.

In old age they still produce fruit;
they are full of sap and freshness,

attesting that the LORD is upright,
my rock, in whom there is no wrong.

Repent with Humility and Modesty

Psalm 50 talks about ethics and morals. In this Psalm, the writer rebukes those who fail in their repentance. He also admonishes those who do not practice what they have studied and only appear to be righteous. Their sins cause others to sin as well.

Almighty God, the Lord,
    Spoke and called to the earth
    from the rising of the sun to its setting.
Out of Zion, the place of perfect beauty,
    God appeared.
Our God comes; he does not keep silence;
    before him is a devouring fire,
    around him a mighty tempest.
He calls to the heavens above
    and to the earth, that he may judge his people:
“Gather to me my faithful ones,
    who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!”
The heavens declare his righteousness,
    for God is Judge forever! Selah

“Hear, O my people, and I will speak;
    O Israel, I will testify against you.
    I am God, your God.
I will not reprove you concerning your sacrifices;
   Neither are your burnt offerings before me constantly.
I will not accept a bull from your house
    or goats from your folds.
For every beast of the forest is mine,
    the cattle on a thousand hills.
I know all the birds of the hills,
    and all that moves in the field is mine.
“If I were hungry, I would not tell you,
    for the world and its fullness are mine.
Do I eat the flesh of bulls
    or drink the blood of goats?
Slaughter for God a confession
    and pay the Most High your vows.
and call to Me on the day of distress;
    I will rescue you, and you will honor me.”

But to the wicked God says:
    “What right have you to recite my Laws
    or bear my covenant on your lips?
For you hate discipline,
    and you cast my words behind you.
If you see a thief, you are pleased with him,
    and you keep company with adulterers.
“You give your mouth free rein for evil,
    and your tongue frames deceit.
You sit and speak against your brother;
    you slander your own mother's son.
You have done these things, and I have kept silent;
    you thought that I was one like yourself.
But now I rebuke you and lay the charge before you.
“Understand this now, you who forget God,
    lest I tear you apart, and there be none to save you!
The one who offers confession as his sacrifice glorifies me;
    to one who orders his way rightly
    I will show the deliverance of God!”

When you read this Psalm you can see what God says about the sacrifices. He does not need the blood or the food but our obedience, our hearts turned towards Him. For He says, “Slaughter for God a confession, and pay the Most High your vows”. We must have a truly repentant heart to find rescue which honors God alone.

The discussion of what pleases God and what doesn’t gives a view of what is right in God’s eyes versus what may be right in man’s. To be delivered by God is to be faithful to His Laws and Statutes. In the last few verses, the writer states that people believe God to be like them and think they can get away with evil. They forget God but God will remind them.

To bring this to a close, God reminds us once again to confess our sins, our iniquities, our evil inclinations to Him and never return to them because a sacrifice means giving them up. How great and compassionate is our God who dwells with those who have faith and trust in Him.

A Call to Worship God Alone

A Call To Worship God Alone
Brothers and Sisters, something has been on my mind as of late. I have not written this past week because I heard the cries of the world calling out for relief yet not knowing where to find it. There are many who try to find solace in man made things and people with big dreams and ideas but they will still be hurting as material and other man made ideas are false gods who cannot truly save.
Those who seek only Jesus will also be lost because although he was put on a cross, God is the one who truly saves us. Jesus did not choose to die, the choice was made for him. Those who place full trust in Jesus yet forget God will be the goat not the sheep.  The last half of Isaiah 45 starting at verse 15 is the Word given to Isaiah by God who pronounced His Sovereignty and place for all mankind.
    O God of Israel, the Savior.
16
All of them are put to shame and confounded;
    the makers of idols go in confusion together.
17
But Israel is saved by the Lord
    with everlasting salvation;
you shall not be put to shame or confounded
    to all eternity.
18
For thus says the Lord,
who created the heavens
    (he is God!),
who formed the earth and made it
    (he established it;
he did not create it empty,
    he formed it to be inhabited!):
“I am the Lord, and there is no other.
19
I did not speak in secret,
    in a land of darkness;
I did not say to the offspring of Jacob,
    ‘Seek me in vain.’[c]
I the Lord speak the truth;
    I declare what is right.
20
“Assemble yourselves and come;
    draw near together,
    you survivors of the nations!
They have no knowledge
    who carry about their wooden idols,
and keep on praying to a god
    that cannot save.
21
Declare and present your case;
    let them take counsel together!
Who told this long ago?
    Who declared it of old?
Was it not I, the Lord?
    And there is no other god besides me,
a righteous God and a Savior;
    there is none besides me.
22
“Turn to me and be saved,
    all the ends of the earth!
    For I am God, and there is no other.
23
By myself I have sworn;
    from my mouth has gone out in righteousness
    a word that shall not return:
‘To me every knee shall bow,
    every tongue shall swear allegiance.’
24
“Only in the Lord, it shall be said of me,
    are righteousness and strength;
to him shall come and be ashamed
    all who were incensed against him.
Isaiah 45:15-24
Brothers and Sisters, I hope by this you can understand why we must read and understand the Old Testament Scripture and seek truth in the writings of the whole Bible. In this section, God warns about Idolatry and blasphemy of His Name. He gives the way to be saved which is trusting in Him alone and true repentance.
We have Jesus because we need one who can talk with God on our behalf. But we must remember not to put Jesus before God and as it is written that Jesus never asked to be worshipped but only God. God’s Name is the Name above all names but it is not to be spoken nor changed.
Love the Lord your God with All your Heart, All your Soul, and All your Might.
