Building Relationships Through God's Love

Scripture of the Week:

Psalm 92

Of David.

It is good to praise the LORD,
to sing hymns to Your name, O Most High,

To proclaim Your steadfast love at daybreak,
Your faithfulness each night

With a ten-stringed harp,
with voice and lyre together.

You have gladdened me by Your deeds, O LORD;
I shout for joy at Your handiwork.

How great are Your works, O LORD,
how very subtle Or “profound.” Your designs!

A brutish man cannot know,
a fool cannot understand this:

though the wicked sprout like grass,
though all evildoers blossom,
it is only that they may be destroyed forever.

But You are exalted, O LORD, for all time.
Surely, Your enemies, O LORD,
surely, Your enemies perish;
all evildoers are scattered.

You raise my horn high like that of a wild ox;
I am soaked in freshening oil.

I shall see the defeat of my watchful foes,
hear of the downfall of the wicked who beset me.

The righteous bloom like a date-palm;
they thrive like a cedar in Lebanon;

planted in the house of the LORD,
they flourish in the courts of our God.

In old age they still produce fruit;
they are full of sap and freshness,

attesting that the LORD is upright,
my rock, in whom there is no wrong.

Bring the Bible Back to Schools

The school system is not as safe of an environment that it used to be. Drugs, alcohol, sexual assaults, pregnancies, excessive bullying on and off campus; these were unheard of 30 years ago. If they happened, the school system was allowed to take disciplinary action unless the parents spoke otherwise in which case the parent came to the school and disciplined openly. Jesus used tough love along with Agape Love. Also, Jesus adamantly spoke of loving the children and reminding them of the rod of wisdom (the teaching of right from wrong by tough love) instead of striking the child but sometimes the swat on the butt is necessary to teach the more disorderly ones a lesson.
My question is this: If the Bible was still a recommended text in school would we have these issues? Before most of us were born, the Bible was taught in schools (in fact into the early 1920s. The basic principles of Proverbs and the other wisdom books were examined from a young age. Now children are chided for reading the Bible during free time and they are learning about Islam which is very dangerous for our youth. We need to get the Bible back into the schools. After all, the public school system did start with Sunday School in England.
On the topic of schools we need to get back to basics. This new common core math seems to be the product of a demented mind. History books are being rewritten to change worldviews, cursive writing is a dying art because of computers, teachers have no disciplinary rights, detention and suspensions really do not work. Remember the Golden Rule? It is now tarnished and replaced with the five pillars of Islam. Obama ordered all school systems to have gender neutral bathrooms and locker rooms, what is up with that? But thank God we have some smart politicians and school District presidents that fight that. Talking about exploring sexuality. The only good that may come of it is early exposure to the opposite sex may cause more appreciation for the body meaning less sexualization and harassment. But then again, there is the issue of the devil getting in the head and assaults could occur.
Thank goodness my daughter is in a school system that has good teachers and actually cares for them. God is definitely present there. Prayer is allowed and reading the Bible is not chided. In fact, one of the high schools has a place for students to take time and pray at lunch or in between classes. The county system has a faith based program that is ever present in schools and Jesus name is the preferred name in open public prayer at events. There is even a Christian based event after every football game.
Our youth are in trouble of not being able to function in society as good moral and ethical citizens. Much less good Christians. How is this honoring our parents? We, as adult Christians, have sat back and allowed the world get so distorted and ungodly that the line between what is morally right and wrong has blurred. We must take a stand and put the Bible back in as a text for study. After all doesn't Scripture command that children take heed of the Word??
