Building Relationships Through God's Love

Scripture of the Week:

Psalm 92

Of David.

It is good to praise the LORD,
to sing hymns to Your name, O Most High,

To proclaim Your steadfast love at daybreak,
Your faithfulness each night

With a ten-stringed harp,
with voice and lyre together.

You have gladdened me by Your deeds, O LORD;
I shout for joy at Your handiwork.

How great are Your works, O LORD,
how very subtle Or “profound.” Your designs!

A brutish man cannot know,
a fool cannot understand this:

though the wicked sprout like grass,
though all evildoers blossom,
it is only that they may be destroyed forever.

But You are exalted, O LORD, for all time.
Surely, Your enemies, O LORD,
surely, Your enemies perish;
all evildoers are scattered.

You raise my horn high like that of a wild ox;
I am soaked in freshening oil.

I shall see the defeat of my watchful foes,
hear of the downfall of the wicked who beset me.

The righteous bloom like a date-palm;
they thrive like a cedar in Lebanon;

planted in the house of the LORD,
they flourish in the courts of our God.

In old age they still produce fruit;
they are full of sap and freshness,

attesting that the LORD is upright,
my rock, in whom there is no wrong.

I am 17 and I Know Everything

NOT
    It happens every generation. Young people who make it past the age of 16 think they know everything. I have heard some say, “I don’t need to graduate, the college has already accepted me”; or the more popular, “I can do this on my own, I don’t need you (parents).” REALLY, I don’t think so. There is an issue with young people that goes way back, a desire to take the business of living into their own hands. This leads to very bad decisions for some because they think they know everything they need to survive in the world.
 The third chapter of Proverbs discusses guidance for the young.
Proverbs 3:5-8 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil.8 It will be health to your flesh,
And strength to your bones (NKJV).”
    Do you see it? Listen to it carefully, Lean not on your own understanding. Just because you think you know everything, you don’t. That even goes for adults. Doing things on our own can lead to something going wrong. Parental guidance from God and being of good countenance leads to right and good decisions keeping you on the right and narrow path. Doing things without proper thought and thinking to better oneself without the Father’s guidance can lead to negative results.            Paul reminds us in Romans 12:16:
Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion (Romans 12:16 NKJV).
Proverbs 23:4-5 says, “Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease!
Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings;
They fly away like an eagle toward heaven.”
Think about the parable of the Prodigal Son….
He thought he knew how to live. We do not know if he worked a day in his life, but apparently it was ok for him to go. He took the money and ran. The young man was not thinking straight. He partied hard and enjoyed the freedom until reality stepped in. He had to work and earn in order to continue the lifestyle he chose. After the realization that he was not fully capable of being on his own he came back. Lesson Learned.
We have so many lazy ways for people to get money these days. One of the most misused is the GoFundMe site. For example there is a young man I know who has worked but quit when the job got too emotionally and physically straining. He is preparing to go to college and set up a GoFundMe instead of working for the money or even taking out a student loan. Then there is Kanye who totally ignored the Word obviously and is now asking people to pay (literally) for his mistakes. COME ON!!!!!
Well, God gave rules, commands, ideas, functions, abilities, and guidance and punishments for such things. If we hear and listen to God’s Word, follow the guidance, and stay the course, we will remain healthy and gain a wealth that is beyond human comprehension. If we honor God with our first fruits (not just money folks) our barns will be full. The storehouse is the body and the spirit, and good character, values, ethics, and morals is the wealth.
So do not think you know everything at 17, heck I am 45 almost 46 and I am still learning every day.
Heavenly Father, Gracious Lord,
We have tried to do things without you only to stumble and fall. We are in need of humbling reminders that we cannot do it by ourselves. We do not have the understanding to always do the right thing which is why we put our trust in you Lord. Thank you for reminding us that You will lift us up so we can try again but with your guidance. In Your Holy and Precious Name, In Jesus,
AMEN
