Building Relationships Through God's Love

Scripture of the Week:

Psalm 103

Of David.

Bless the LORD, O my soul,
all my being, His holy name.

Bless the LORD, O my soul
and do not forget all His bounties.

He forgives all your sins,
heals all your diseases.

He redeems your life from the Pit,
surrounds you with steadfast love and mercy.

He satisfies you with good things in the prime of life,
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

The LORD executes righteous acts
and judgments for all who are wronged.

He made known His ways to Moses,
His deeds to the children of Israel.

The LORD is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love.

He will not contend forever,
or nurse His anger for all time.

He has not dealt with us according to our sins,
nor has He requited us according to our iniquities.

For as the heavens are high above the earth,
so great is His steadfast love toward those who fear Him.

As east is far from west,
so far has He removed our sins from us.

As a father has compassion for his children,
so the LORD has compassion for those who fear Him.

For He knows how we are formed;
He is mindful that we are dust.

Man, his days are like those of grass;
he blooms like a flower of the field;

a wind passes by and it is no more,
its own place no longer knows it.

But the LORD’s steadfast love is for all eternity
toward those who fear Him,
and His beneficence is for the children’s children

of those who keep His covenant
and remember to observe His precepts.

The LORD has established His throne in heaven,
and His sovereign rule is over all.

Bless the LORD, O His angels,
mighty creatures who do His bidding,
ever obedient to His bidding;

bless the LORD, all His hosts,
His servants who do His will;

bless the LORD, all His works,
through the length and breadth of His realm;
bless the LORD, O my soul.

Net Worth Does Not Matter

Thumbing through the news Saturday night I found more news about rich people’s and celebrity net wealth than bad news. Why are we concerning ourselves with the net wealth of others? What does it matter how much money people make. I would rather get heartwarming stories of people’s good deeds that enrich the spirits of them an those around them.
For the prosperity gospel folks apparently hearing of someone’s money is good news, but what does that really get them, heart warm or heart ache? Jesus talked about wealth, yes, but the wealth He spoke of was not material, it was spiritual. Think about this: When Jesus was approached about taxes He went right to the knock-out punch by asking whose face is on the coin. The answer was Caesar’s so Jesus explains that we are to pay Caesar what is Caesar’s, but pay God what is God’s. So what is God’s?
We are God’s inheritance, not our physical material selves but our glorified Spiritual selves. Our wealth is in the Spirit so when we discuss wealth it truly is a personal matter. What we give to God is Worship and Praise that encompasses the Spiritual Gifts that we are given. Yes the money matters when it comes to building upkeep and supplying the staff with enough to live on but what truly matters is what have you done for God lately.
Remember the story of the rich man who had so much he had to build more buildings to hold all he had? What happened to him? He was taken the night he was boasting about all he had then when his spirit left, he had nothing. No joy, no happiness, nothing. His children wasted the material wealth that was left behind and there was truly nothing left of the man but a memory of his materialism. That is not a good legacy to leave behind. What kind of legacy will you leave?
When we move on what is more important, the contributions that helped society physically or spiritually. Will the person you helped remember you for the things given or the fact that you gave of yourself freely without need of accolades? I tell you the person who gives freely is doing for his or her fellow man (person) what God has done for us. God gives us Grace and Mercy freely so we should emulate God by giving of ourselves in the same manner.
The measure of a man is not how much he has stored up in the bank, the nice cars or the mansion; the measure is his friends, his relationships with people, his kindness, his joy shared with others, his sacrifice even when he has nothing but himself to give. Jesus expressed it like this, “Greater love has no man than he who would give his life for his friends” (John 15:13). Does the person who stores material riches have friends or potential moochers?
I bring up that verse as we approach the 4th of July. The United States celebrates that day as the declaration of independence from tyranny. What did it cost us? Many lives of husbands, brothers, sons, even daughters, wives, and mothers. They fought for freedom and we have wasted what they fought for.
Brothers and Sisters, do not worry about others financial status or another’s personal life except those who matter most in your immediate personal relationships. Remember, they are just people too but those who put their life out there are just needing others approval. Give of yourselves in the way Jesus gave to the people when He walked the earth. Love others as God loves us, both agape and hard love. Be safe and aware of our surroundings this holiday.
God’s Love, Grace, and Mercy envelop you,
Rob, Servant of God
