Building Relationships Through God's Love

Scripture of the Week:

Psalm 92

Of David.

It is good to praise the LORD,
to sing hymns to Your name, O Most High,

To proclaim Your steadfast love at daybreak,
Your faithfulness each night

With a ten-stringed harp,
with voice and lyre together.

You have gladdened me by Your deeds, O LORD;
I shout for joy at Your handiwork.

How great are Your works, O LORD,
how very subtle Or “profound.” Your designs!

A brutish man cannot know,
a fool cannot understand this:

though the wicked sprout like grass,
though all evildoers blossom,
it is only that they may be destroyed forever.

But You are exalted, O LORD, for all time.
Surely, Your enemies, O LORD,
surely, Your enemies perish;
all evildoers are scattered.

You raise my horn high like that of a wild ox;
I am soaked in freshening oil.

I shall see the defeat of my watchful foes,
hear of the downfall of the wicked who beset me.

The righteous bloom like a date-palm;
they thrive like a cedar in Lebanon;

planted in the house of the LORD,
they flourish in the courts of our God.

In old age they still produce fruit;
they are full of sap and freshness,

attesting that the LORD is upright,
my rock, in whom there is no wrong.

Weapons of Mass Distraction

Come up to Me on the mountain and be there. Exodus 24:12 tells us that God called Moses to the mountain and to be there, is this a redundancy or on purpose. God wants Moses to not only be present physically but mentally. He is telling Moses to clear his mind from Weapons of Mass Distraction (WMDs) so his full attention and concentration is on God alone. Moses waits six days and finally is in God's presence on the seventh.

When we talk with God in prayer, WMDs are attacking us so we are no longer concentrating on speaking with God but thinking of other things that happened during the day. It's like eating the best breakfast you ever had while thinking about what is for lunch.

If we clear our minds by meditation even for a short time to aim our focus away from the world and only on God, we can hear God speak to us as we clearly give Him our worship, praise, and concerns we have. We can even do this in our daily lives dealing with others.

How often are we talking with someone, especially family members, when their concentration seems to be elsewhere? No one is immune from that. All venues of Mass Media entertainment including games, social networks, and news, can keep the attention away from things that really matter.

How Do We Destroy Our WMDs?
We do not need to go to the extreme of setting anything on fire or blowing things up, simply putting it to the side when someone is talking works just fine. If it is a real problem, deleting the game or hiding the controller, game console, or tablet removes the distraction and invites change.

We do not have to go to those extremes above if we agree or commit to spending less time on it or giving all distractions up (especially those which lead to sin). This is the best way because when we commit to remove distractions we can have a more peaceful transition which leads to a change of heart, mind, values, and character while improving relationships with others and bringing us closer to God.

Remove WMDs from your life and concentrate on relationships, especially with God. It is life changing.
